when you've got MUD! We offer two birthday party sessions to fit your schedule & budget. The sessions give kids a fun overview of the entire ceramic process from moist clay to fired ware. Please do not plan to serve food at our studio. Due to the clay and glaze dust it is not a safe eating environment for children, however, the Old Orchard area in Webster Groves is full of fun places to eat (see our recommendations below). Children should wear old clothes that can get very dirty. Our clays may contain iron that can permanently stain clothes. _________________________ #1
Handbuilding (Ages
6-14) This one hour
session offers a brief overview of the pottery making process. We explain
the terms greenware, bisqueware, & glazed ware & talk about
the glazing & firing process. Kids will make one or two of the following
projects: pinch pot, pinch pot monster, slab tile, coil pot or slab
box. The pieces are then glazed with a glaze that the birthday boy/girl
gets to pick!. The pots can then be picked up about two weeks after
the session. _______________________________#2
Wheel Throwing (Ages
8-14) During our one hour and thirty minute session kids work on the potter's wheel experiencing the art and craft that is "throwing". Instructors will demonstrate the basic techniques and assist children individually. Throwing is not an easy task so we emphasize the experience over the final product. Kids will make 2 to 3 pots each. The pots will then be glazed in the color the birthday boy/girl chooses! Finished pots can be picked up in about two weeks. _________________________ Recommended eating establishments in Old Orchard: Einstein Bros.
